Missed Call Text-Back

Automatically text any caller who reaches your voicemail — so you never lose a hot lead.

1

Why This Matters

Most callers who reach your voicemail won't try again. Missed Call Text-Back re-engages them instantly — before they move on to a competitor.

  1. 62% of callers won't leave a voicemail or call back — If your voicemail is the last thing they hear from you, most of them are gone. A text within seconds changes the dynamic entirely.
  2. Speed to lead is critical — Research consistently shows that response time is the single biggest factor in conversion. Responding within 5 minutes is 21x more effective than responding within 30 minutes.
  3. A text feels more approachable than a voicemail — Many people — especially younger buyers — prefer texting over phone calls. A text gives them the option to respond in their preferred channel.
  4. It works 24/7 without any effort from you — Missed Call Text-Back is fully automated. Whether it's 2pm on a Tuesday or 10pm on a Sunday, every missed call gets followed up instantly.
  5. It creates a live Jtek conversation — When the caller replies to your text-back, that reply comes into your Jtek Conversations inbox as a new chat thread. You pick it up when you're ready.
Tip: Missed Call Text-Back is one of the highest-ROI features in Jtek. Most users who enable it start getting replies from leads they would have lost within the first week. Turn it on today — it takes 2 minutes to set up.

How It Works

The mechanism is simple. When an inbound call to your Jtek number goes to voicemail, Jtek immediately sends a text to the caller's number — automatically, no action required from you.

  1. Caller dials your Jtek number — The call comes in to your Jtek number (the local 10-digit number you set up in Settings → Phone Numbers).
  2. The call isn't answered — You don't pick up, or the call goes to voicemail. Jtek detects this automatically.
  3. Jtek fires the text-back message within seconds — The automated SMS is sent to the caller's number immediately after the voicemail triggers. There's no delay waiting for the voicemail to finish.
  4. The caller receives a personalized-feeling text — Your text-back message arrives on their phone as if you just sent it personally. Most recipients respond within minutes.
  5. The reply opens a conversation in your inbox — When they text back, it creates a thread in Jtek Conversations. You'll see it in your inbox and can reply when you're ready.
Tip: Text-back only fires on unanswered inbound calls — it won't trigger if you answer, if the caller hangs up before voicemail, or if you're calling outbound. It's targeted exactly at the missed opportunity.

Setting Up Missed Call Text-Back

Enabling Missed Call Text-Back takes about two minutes. Here's exactly where to find it and what to do.

  1. Go to Settings in the left sidebar — Click the gear icon at the bottom of the navigation panel.
  2. Find "Missed Call Text-Back" — Scroll through the settings menu. You'll find it under the Phone or Business Settings section.
  3. Toggle Missed Call Text-Back to ON — The toggle switches from grey to blue/green when enabled. Once on, the message editor appears below the toggle.
  4. Write your text-back message — Type the message your callers will receive. Keep it conversational, identify yourself, and include a clear next step. Example: "Hi! Sorry I missed your call — this is Jesse from Jtek. What can I help you with?"
  5. Click Save — Your text-back is now live. Every missed call to your Jtek number from this point forward will automatically receive this message.

Customizing the Message

Your text-back message is the first impression for every caller you miss. It should feel warm, human, and helpful — not robotic.

  1. Keep it short and conversational — 1–3 sentences max. You're starting a conversation, not writing a sales pitch. The goal is to get a reply, not close a deal in one text.
  2. Identify yourself immediately — State your name and business in the first sentence. If you have multiple team members, consider using a general business name rather than a specific person's name.
  3. End with an open question — "What can I help you with?" or "Is there something I can help you with today?" invites a reply without being pushy.
  4. Avoid sounding automated — Phrases like "You have reached an automated response..." kill the conversation before it starts. Write it like you'd actually text someone.
  5. Test it by calling your own Jtek number from your cell and letting it go to voicemail — You'll receive the text-back on your cell and can see exactly what callers see. Read it fresh and adjust if anything sounds off.
Tip: Good example: "Hi, sorry I missed you — Jesse here from Riverside Realty. Are you looking to buy or sell?" Simple, personal, asks a question. Bad example: "Thank you for calling. We will respond during business hours." Cold and generic.

Reviewing Missed Call Logs

Jtek tracks every missed call and the resulting text-back conversation. Use the log to follow up on any leads who haven't replied yet.

  1. Open Conversations in the left sidebar — This is your central inbox for all messages across every channel (SMS, email, chat, etc.).
  2. Filter by "Missed Call" — Use the filter options at the top of the Conversations view to show only conversations that started from a missed call. This isolates the leads generated by text-back.
  3. Look for unread or unanswered replies — Any conversation where the contact replied but you haven't responded yet will show an unread indicator. These are your most urgent follow-ups.
  4. Note contacts who never replied — Some callers won't text back. For high-value missed calls (e.g., someone who called twice), consider doing a manual outbound follow-up call the next business day.
  5. Track conversion from missed call to conversation — Over time, notice what percentage of missed calls turn into active text conversations. This is one of your key performance metrics for the feature — if it's below 20%, consider testing a different text-back message.
Tip: Check your missed call conversations every morning. Leads who texted back the night before are still warm — a reply first thing in the morning keeps the conversation alive and often converts that same day.
